Second Half Surge Helps Lift Cougars Over Niagara County

BATAVIA, NY... The Genesee Men's Basketball team picked up a big Region III win over Niagara County thanks to a big second half push by the Cougars. 

Jalen Willis led all scorers with 18 points and added another 10 rebounds and 5 assists, shooting 7-13 from the field and 1-2 from behind the 3-point line. Legacy Wallace helped pace the Cougars with 17 points, also going 7-13 from the field and 3-6 from 3-point territory. Jordan Matos added another 15 points to help Genesee edge out the Thunderwolves by a 6-point margin. 

It was a story of two different halfs, as Niagra County took a 41-32 lead into halftime. Genesee would not go quietly however, as the Cougars outscored Niagara County 42-27 in the second half, with Matos' 15 points and 13 of Willis' 18 points all coming in the final 20 minutes of regulation. 

Genesee (17-8, 5-4) makes the trip to Jamestown CC to close out the 2019-2020 regular season on Saturday, Feb 22, at 3pm. Seeding for the Region III Division II Championship tournament will be available on Sunday, February 23.
