NCCC splits at Finger Lakes

Niagara County Community College had its 28-game winning streak snapped, but did manage a split with host Finger Lakes CC in Region III action Saturday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 33-5 overall and 19-1 in Western Division play.

Finger Lakes CC 6, Niagara CCC 4

Freshman Brandon Nicholson was 3-for-4 at the plate and classmate Julian Placencia added two hits, including a double, in the loss. Sophomore right-hander Alex Kubera (4-1) suffered his first setback of the season, allowing four hits and four runs in six innings of work.

Niagara CCC 9, Finger Lakes CC 1

Sophomore Michael Colosi along with freshmen Nate Chase and Joe Milkowski belted home runs in the victory. Sophomore backstop Brett Helmbrecht finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman southpaw David Lyskawa threw six innings, scattering seven hits and striking out four to improve to 3-1 on the year.

Sunday's doubleheader with the Lakers was washed out. Next up is a double dip at SUNY Broome beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
