Matre throws no-hitter; NCCC wins two

Niagara County Community College picked up a pair of shutouts in its Western New York Athletic Conference opening series at Jamestown CC on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves, who are receiving votes in the NJCAA Div. III poll, improve to 16-4 overall and 2-0 in the WNYAC.

Sophomore second baseman Michael Colosi had three hits and six RBIs to led the offense. Freshmen Brandon Nicholson and Julian Placencia each had two hits and two RBIs, while freshman right-hander Evan Harof improved to 2-0 on the mound.

Sophomore flame thrower Matt Matre tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in the nightcap. The righty moved to 3-0 on the season. At the plate, freshman outfielder Nate Chase had three hits and three RBIs and Placencia added a double and an RBI.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is a home double dip with the Jayhawks. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Thursday.
