Thunderwolves split with Macomb CC

Niagara County Community College split a pair of games with NJCAA Div. II Macomb (Mich.) CC on Thursday night at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida. The Thunderwolves are now 2-2 on the young season.

Niagara CCC 5, Macomb CC 4

Freshman shortstop Brandon Nicholson had a pair of triples and two RBIs in the win. Sophomore backstop Brett Helmbrecht was 1-for-1 with an RBI and first-year DH Dan George clubbed two hits. Freshman right-hander Christian Young earned his first collegiate victory, tossing six innings. He allowed four hits and four earned runs, while striking out four. Freshman Loukas Bechakas earned the save with a scoreless inning of relief.

Macomb CC 7, Niagara CCC 6

In defeat, freshman outfielder Joe Milkowski had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Classmate Hayden Ewell added a pair of RBIs and freshman Brian Hodges finished with two hits. Sophomore righty Alex Kubera allowed six hits and four earned runs over four innings. He struck out six. Freshman southpaw Michael Eagler worked two scoreless innings of relief.

Next up for NCCC is a doubleheader with Century (Minn.) College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Friday.
