Niagara County Community College picked up a hard-earned Region III sweep of visiting Onondaga CC on Tuesday afternoon. The Thunderwolves improved to 24-4 overall and 10-0 in regional play.
Niagara CCC 9, Onondaga CC 1
Sophomore Matt Matre threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Classmates Brett Helmbrecht and Michael Colosi along with freshman Nate Chase each finished with two RBIs.

Freshman Julian Placencia drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman Brandon Nicholson had two hits and an RBI. First-year right-hander Evan Harof tossed three innings of hitless relief to earn his third victory of the season.
Next up is a return trip to OCC. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. Thursday.
