Young, Lyskawa named All-Americans

Niagara County Community College sophomore pitchers Christian Young and David Lyskawa were named NJCAA Division III All-Americans on Tuesday afternoon. The duo helped NCCC to a school-record 47 wins, a Region III Div. III championship and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Div. III World Series.

Young, a two-time first team All-Region III selection, was a first-team All-American after going 6-2 with three complete games and a critical three-inning save in the NJCAA Div. III semifinals this past spring. The 6-foot-5 right-hander allowed just 10 earned runs (1.57 ERA) and struck out 106 batters over 57.1 innings pitched. The flame thrower was selected in the Major League Baseball Draft (21st round, Cincinnati Reds) for the second time in as many years last week, but has decided to further his career at West Virginia University of the Big XII Conference.

Lyskawa, another first team All-Region III choice, was a third-team All-American after going 8-3 with four complete games this season. The southpaw threw a team-high 73.1 innings and totaled a 1.96 ERA with 107 strikeouts. He will continue on at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County of the America East Conference.
