Young honored by WNYAC
Niagara County Community College standout pitcher Christian Young was recently named the Western New York Athletic Conference Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year following a vote of conference athletic directors.
An ace on the mound, Young amassed an eye-popping 14-2 record on the bump over his two years in royal blue and gold. As a freshman, the right-hander was 9-0 with a 1.20 ERA along with 79 strikeouts in just 52 innings pitched. This spring, he went 6-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 106 punch outs in 57.1 innings pitched.
He finished with eight career complete games, led the Thunderwolves to back-to-back NJCAA Division III World Series appearances and most notably was selected in the past two Major League Baseball Drafts (2016, 23rd round, Oakland Athletics; 2017, 21st round, Cincinnati Reds).
Young plans to honor his National Letter of Intent with NCAA Division I West Virginia University of the Big XII Conference next season.
