Six NCCC diamond stars named All-WNYAC

Niagara County Community College had six players recently selected to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference team as voted on by conference coaches. Sophomore Matt Cross and freshmen Garrett Boldt and Vincent Chiarenza were first-team choices, while sophomores Joe Kruszka and Jarod Burmaster along with freshman Joe Barberio were second-team picks.

Cross, a catcher, hit .382 with 52 hits, 41 runs, eight doubles, seven home runs, 44 RBIs and a .610 slugging percentage. Chiarenza, a first baseman, hit .415 with 56 hits, 46 runs, nine doubles, nine home runs, 53 RBIs and a .711 slugging percentage. Boldt, a speedy outfielder, hit .438 with 57 hits, 48 runs, 14 doubles, 44 RBIs, 34 stolen bases and .623 slugging percentage.

Kruszka, the Thunderwolves' right-handed closer, was 5-0 with seven saves, a 1.37 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 17.77 Ks/9 innings. Burmaster, a right-handed starter, was 6-0 with a 2.54 ERA and 60 Ks over 49.2 innings pitched. Barberio, a multi-positional threat, hit .361 with 37 hits, 35 runs, seven doubles, seven home runs, 37 RBIs and a .649 slugging percentage. The righty was also 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched.
