NCCC beats Kats in extras
Freshman Bryan Rivera ripped an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Niagara County Community College to a 6-5 win over Region III rival Erie Community College at Sal Maglie Stadium on Tuesday. Rivera finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs. NCCC, which is ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 13-2 overall and 1-0 in regional play. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
Also for the T-Wolves, freshman Vincent Chiarenza had an RBI and sophomore Michael O'Connor added a pair of hits. Sophomore right-hander Jarod Burmaster went six innings and struck out 10, while classmate Joe Kruszka improved to 3-0 on the season after recording four Ks in two innings of scoreless relief.
Next up for the Thunderwolves is a home regional double dip with SUNY Broome. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday.
