NCCC sweeps Tribunes

Niagara County Community College went on the road and swept NJCAA Div. II opponent Monroe Community College this past Saturday. The Thunderwolves, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 12-2 on the season.

Niagara CCC 13, Monroe CC 5

Freshman Vincent Chiarenza was 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored for the T-Wolves, who blew open a close game with five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Casey Gruarin finished 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Freshman Matt Kruszka added a two-run double, while older brother Joe Kruszka picked up a four-out save - his third of the season.

Niagara CCC 7, Monroe CC 2

Sophomore right-handers Jacob Lewis and C.J. Gonzales combined to allow just seven hits, two runs and struck out six in the win. Sophomore Michael O'Connor was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and freshman Bryan Rivera notched two hits and scored twice.

Next up for NCCC is its regional opener against rival Erie Community College. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sal Maglie Stadium.
