Niagara County Community College continued its winning ways, taking five of six regional games over this past weekend. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 3 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, are now 31-5 overall and 19-3 in Region III Western Division play. Next up is a pair of make-up doubleheaders against Corning CC (Tuesday) and Genesee CC (Thursday).
Onondaga CC 2, Niagara CCC 1
Sophomores Matt Cross and Noah Thompson each went 2-for-3 in defeat. Second-year right-hander Justin Beyer allowed just six hits and one earned run over 4.1 innings pitched, Classmate Trace Gillis tossed 1.2 innings of hitless relief.
Niagara CCC 16, Onondaga CC 4
Freshman Garrett Boldt was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs scored and five stolen bases. Thompson, meanwhile, finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Jacob Lewis went five innings and allowed just four hits and three earned runs, while striking out six.
Niagara CCC 21, Erie CC 8
The Thunderwolves clubbed six home runs to knock off their rivals. Freshman Joe Barberio had three hits, including two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore Casey Gruarin also had a pair of long balls with three RBIs and three runs. Freshman Vincent Chiarenza added three hits, a home run, four RBIs and three runs, while Boldt chipped in with three hits, a dinger, three RBIs, three runs and four more stolen bases.
Niagara CCC 12, Erie CC 8
Boldt was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. Freshman Bryan Rivera added two runs and an RBI. Gillis threw three scoreless innings of relief with six Ks, while sophomore Joe Kruszka picked up his fifth save of the year.
Niagara CCC 13, Corning CC 2
Sophomore Jarod Burmaster struck out nine in five innings pitched to move to 5-0 on the season. Barberio belted another home run on his way to three RBIs. Freshman William Lawrence and Chiarenza each added two RBIs.
Niagara CCC 19, Corning CC 2
Lawrence led the way, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored. Barberio was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Both Rivera and Aaron Potter finished with three RBis and two runs scored.
