NCCC takes three straight from Hornets

Niagara County Community College clubbed 48 total hits in a three-game sweep of Region III Western Division foe SUNY Broome this past week. The fourth game was rained out. NCCC, which is ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, is now 25-6 overall and 13-2 in regional play. Next up is a four-game set with Finger Lakes Community College.

Niagara CCC 17, SUNY Broome 0

Sophomore Joe Barberio moved to 4-0 on the year as he allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in a complete-game effort. Classmate Will Lawrence was 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and three runs scored and fellow second-year standout Bryan Rivera finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Raymond Specht was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the win.

Niagara CCC 12, SUNY Broome 1

Sophomore Alex Bish improved to 4-1 on the season as he allowed just three hits and struck out five batters in four innings of work. Rivera led the offense, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lawrence added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while sophomore Vincent Chiarenza clubbed his sixth home run of the season.

Niagara CCC 15, SUNY Broome 1

Sophomore Lou Destino improved his record to 2-0 as he allowed just three hits and struck out two over five innings. Sophomore Garrett Boldt along with Lawrence went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the victory.
