Thunderwolves split four-game set with FLCC

Niagara County Community College split four games this past weekend against Region III Western Division foe Finger Lakes Community College. The Thunderwolves, who were ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, are now 30-7 overall and 15-4 in regional play. Next up is a four-game set with Jamestown Community College.

Sophomores Troy Banks, Joe Barberio and Kyle LaPlante each had two RBIs in the series-opening setback. Classmate Vincent Chiarenza added two hits and two runs.

Finger Lakes CC 2, Niagara CCC 1

Despite a strong outing from sophomore Keegan Ernest, the T-Wolves mustered just three hits. Ernest allowed just four hits and two earned runs in defeat. Sophomore Garrett Boldt drove in fellow second-year standout Matt Kruszka for the lone NCCC run.

Niagara CCC 4, Finger Lakes CC 0

Freshman Erik Johnson improved to 5-1 on the year as he tossed a two-hitter with seven Ks. LaPlante led the offense as he finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Sophomore Will Lawrence added an RBI and scored a run.

Niagara CCC 15, Finger Lakes CC 5

Banks was 5-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored for the T-Wolves. Chiarenza was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Lawrence finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and scored twice. Barberio moved to 5-0 on the mound as he allowed just one earned run and struck oyut nine in 4.2 innings of work.
