Niagara County Community College won a pair of home contests against Region III rival Genesee Community College this past Saturday. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 34-5 overall and 20-3 in regional play. The same two teams meet for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday in Batavia.
Niagara CCC 2, Genesee CC 1
NCCC sophomore Ryan Birchard allowed just three hits and struck out nine in six innings of work. The right-hander improved to 5-0 on the year. Classmate Andrew Bench threw a scoreless seventh for his third save of the season. Sophomores Alex Minnehan and Howard Stuckey each scored a run and stole two bases.
Niagara CCC 6, Genesee CC 2
N-Trip sophomore Nicholas Castellana homered and finished with four RBIs in the win. Sophomore Conner Hoehman was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while classmate Bradyn Coletta improved to 4-0 on the mound. Sophomore Hunter Loomis earned a two-inning save.
