Thunderwolves sweep MCC

SUNY Niagara went on the road and swept Western New York Athletic Conference rival Monroe Community College on Tuesday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 14-6 overall. The T-Wolves open Region III play at 2 p.m. Thursday with a doubleheader at SUNY Broome.

SUNY Niagara 7, Monroe CC 2

Sophomore Andrew Stillinger was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the win. Classmate Matthew Procopio and freshman Braden Hill added two hits apiece, while sophomore hurler Andrew Damiani struck out eight in 6.2 innings of work.

SUNY Niagara 4, Monroe CC 2 (9 inn.)

Stillinger and fellow sophomore Brett Johnson each drove in a run in the ninth inning to complete the come-from-behind victory. Stillinger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Johnson and Hill chipped in two hits each. Sophomore righty Andrew Johnson did not allow an earned run and struck out seven in seven innings of work. Freshman Aidan Paul was credited with the win, though, as he pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
