SUNY Niagara wins two tight ballgames

SUNY Niagara won a pair of one-run Region III ballgames against visiting Onondaga Community College on Thursday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 40-8 overall and 24-2 in regional play. Next up is a road doubleheader at Corning Community College. First pitch is at Noon Saturday.

SUNY Niagara 7, Onondaga CC 6 (10 inn.)

Sophomore Steven Merkel singled in freshman Nigel Sebastianelli in the bottom of the 10th inning for the win. Merkel and freshman Gavyn Boyle each had two RBIs, while Sebastianelli added two hits and two runs scored. Sophomore Owen Silliman was 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Sophomore Andrew Damiani threw four innings of hitless relief to improve to 7-1 on the season.

SUNY Niagara 3, Onondaga CC 2

Freshman Sean Duffy notched six strikeouts over six innings to improve to 4-1 on the year. Sophomore Andrew Johnson slammed the door in the seventh for his first save. Freshman Keygan Miksa and Boyle each had a run-scoring sacrifice fly, while freshman Weston Thompson reached base three times and had an RBI.
