NCCC wins sixth tourney & WNYAC title

Niagara County Community College won its school-record sixth tournament of the season along with the Western New York Athletic Conference team championship this past weekend. The Thunderwolves next compete on May 13-14 at the Region III Championships hosted by Timber Banks Golf Club.

Jamestown CC Invitational

The Thunderwolves (322) were one off the pace set by Onondaga Community College (321) at Chautaqua Golf Club - site of next month's NJCAA Div. III Championships. Sophomore Hogan Lang finished in a tie for third after firing a 77. Classmate Ben Kolbe had a 79 and freshmen Carl Graff and Nick Penna each carded an 83.

Niagara CCC Invitational

NCCC (307), winners of its home tourney for four consecutive years, was eight strokes better than runner-up Cayuga Community College (315) at Willowbrook Golf Course. Graff took home medalist honors via a match a cards after he shot a three-over-par 74. Hogan Lang was tied for third again with a 75, Kolbe shot 78, freshman Murphy Lang added an 80 and sophomore Rich O'Connell chipped in with an 82.

Genesee CC Invitational (WNYAC Tournament)

The T-Wolves (321) finished one shot back of first-place Cayuga Community College (320) at Batavia Country Club. NCCC, though, was crowned WNYAC team champions as its team score bested both Genesee CC and Jamestown CC. Hogan Lang fired a 76 on his way to WNYAC medalist honors. Joining him on the WNYAC first team were: Graff (81), Kolbe (82) and Penna (82). Second-team honors went to Murphy Lang (84) and O'Connell (84).

* Freshman Emily Neidrauer finished as female runner-up in all three events. She shot 98, 100 and 104 in her three rounds.
