NCCC wins Region III golf championship

Niagara County Community College won its first Region III golf championship since 1968 on Tuesday at Timber Banks Golf Club. The Thunderwolves recorded team totals of 326 on consecutive days (652 total strokes) to finish 29 shots ahead of runner-up Cayuga Community College (681). The entire NCCC roster qualified for the 2019 NJCAA Div. III Championship, which is slated for June 4-7 at Chautauqua Golf Club.

NCCC sophomore Hogan Lang finished in second place overall with rounds of 82 and 77 for a two-day total of 159. Freshman Carl Graff was one stroke back at 160 (80-80) to take fourth. Freshman Murphy Lang was ninth (82-85-167), sophomore Ben Kolbe took 12th (88-84-172) and classmate Rich O'Connell finished 13th (82-91-173).

Following the event, head coach Matt Oleski was named Region III Coach of the Year. It is the third time (2015, '17 & '19) he has received the honor. All five T-Wolves players were named to the All-Region team after finishing in the top 15 individually.
