Niagara County Community College entered the postseason on a high note after knocking off No. 8 Monroe CC, 88-83, in a Western New York Athletic Conference road tilt on Saturday afternoon. NCCC wraps up the regular season at 17-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play. It was also the first conference defeat for MCC.
The Thunderwolves have secured the No. 5 seed in the Region III Div. II Tournament and will visit No. 4 Genesee CC in a quarterfinal slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinals set for Noon against the host Tribunes.
In Saturday's victory, sophomore Kyle Williams had a season-high 34 points (10-of-16 shooting) and 10 rebounds. Classmate Francisco Williams added 13 points and 15 rebounds, second-year guard Mike McQuillen had 13 points and freshman guard Jawuan Gillespie finished with nine points, six boards and six assists.
