Niagara County Community College used a strong defensive effort to knock off visiting Erie CC, 89-66, in Western New York Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, held the rival Kats to just 35-percent shooting, including 2-of-21 from 3-point range. NCCC improves to 21-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Sophomore guard Jamal Pollydore continued to pace the Thunderwolves, netting a team-high 15 points. Classmate Justin Alleyne-Washington recorded 14 points and six boards off the bench, while freshman Donel Cathcart finished with 13 points and six rebounds. First-year point guard Randy Corporan stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine assists and five rebounds.

NCCC wraps up the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Mercyhurst North East. A win will clinch the top seed and the right to host the Region III Div. II Tournament, which is set for March 3-5.
