Thunderwolves top reigning champions

Niagara County Community College knocked off defending champion and visiting Monroe CC, 85-74, in its Western New York Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves, who are ranked No. 10 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improve to 14-2 overall and 1-0 in the WNYAC. MCC, meanwhile, drops to 9-7 and 0-1.

Sophomore guard Jamal Pollydore netted 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting to lead the Thunderwolves, who shot 50 percent from the field. Classmates Elijah Davy and Kofi Mills combined for 21 points off the bench for NCCC, which netted 42 of its points in the paint.

Next up for the T-Wolves is a road tilt at Genesee CC. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday.
