In a game marred by 59 total fouls, Niagara County Community College came away with an 84-77 Region III win at Mercyhurst North East on Saturday afternoon. NCCC improved to 16-8 overall and 5-5 in Western New York Athletic Conference play. The Saints dropped to 6-14, 2-8.
Sophomore guard Laterrance Reed led the Thunderwolves with 20 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Donel Cathcart added 16 points and five boards, while freshman wing Dytanya Mixson had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, off the bench. The T-Wolves, who finished 35-50 from the free-throw line, held a 52-31 edge in rebounding.
Next up for NCCC is a home date with conference-leading and nationally-ranked Monroe Community College. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The T-Wolves won the teams' latest meeting, 79-74, late last month.
