Niagara County Community College sophomore Nigel Scantlebury hit a 40-foot shot as time expired to lift the host Thunderwolves to a thrilling 64-61 win over Mercyhurst North East in Region III action on Wednesday night. NCCC, which is ranked No. 14 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, is now 16-3 overall and 1-0 in regional play.
Scantlebury finished with a game-high 24 points as he nailed 13 of 15 free-throw attempts. Sophomore wing Marcellus Cooper came off the bench to add 11 points and six rebounds for the T-Wolves, who forced 25 turnovers in the win.
Next up for NCCC is a home clash with Jamestown Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
