Meister nets game winner for NCCC

Noah Meister's header with less than five minutes remaining in the second overtime lifted Niagara County Community College to a 3-2 Region III win over visiting Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday afternoon. The Thunderwolves are now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in regional play.

NCCC had built up a 2-0 first-half lead for the second consecutive day following tallies from Meister and classmate Brayden Skobjak. The Hawks stormed back, though, eventually tying the game with 32 seconds remaining in regulation.

Just past the midpoint of the second overtime, freshman Noah Thompson lofted a ball to Meister, who re-directed it past the MVCC goalkeeper for the game winner. It was Thompson's second assist of the game.

NCCC goalkeeper Josh Westphal finished with 15 saves to pick up his first collegiate victory between the pipes. The sophomore also stopped a penality kick for the second straight game.

Next up for the T-Wolves is a trip to regional foe SUNY Broome. The match will kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday.
