Niagara County Community College scored a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win over visiting Tompkins-Cortland Community College under scorching conditions on Wednesday afternoon. The Thunderwolves improved to 2-1 on the young season.
NCCC sophomore center-midfielder Tyler Van Buren capped the comeback with a goal four minutes into extra time. Van Buren's heroics were only possible due to a pair of late NCCC tallies by freshmen Isaac Swanson (79') and David Reiley (87'). Sophomore Austin Sauer also scored for the T-Wolves, who got nine saves from first-year goalkeeper John Pearson. Reiley, Sauer, Tim McKean and Craig Pellow notched assists.
"This was a big win for our program on a number of levels," first-year head coach Dave Hesch said. "First off, it's a victory over a historically-rich program and second, it shows we can come back from being down early. I'm proud of the guys and excited to see where a win like this can take us."
Next up for NCCC is a road date with Cayuga Community College. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Sunday at Holland Stadium in Auburn.
