Thunderwolves get into win column

Niagara County Community College finally broke into the win column during their annual trip to Maryland. The Thunderwolves are 2-17 overall on the season, but it should be noted they boast a 2-0 mark against NJCAA Div. III opponents.

Lakeland CC 10, Niagara CCC 2

Vicki Waugaman and Katey Matteson had back-to-back RBI doubles in defeat. Waugaman went the distance in the circle, allowing just four earned runs.

Hagerstown CC 3, Niagara CCC 1

Bree Chambers tossed a complete game and allowed just two earned runs and struck out four. Ana Bryer had two hits and two stolen bases and Matteson added an RBI single.

Niagara CCC 4, Anne Arundel CC 2

Waugaman, who struck out 11 to earn the win in the circle, was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Melanie Sweeney was also 3-for-3 in the win.

Niagara CCC 8, Anne Arundel CC 7

The Thunderwolves scored five runs over the last two innings to earn the victory. Chambers threw all seven innings and struck out 10. Erica Justinger was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Sydney Parker added three RBIs.

Harford CC 6, Niagara CCC 5

Waugaman and Matteson each had two hits and two RBIs in defeat. Waugaman also threw a complete game with six Ks. Bryer scored three runs and stole three bases.

Harford CC 4, Niagara CCC 1

Chambers struck out nine in a complete-game effort. Bryer ripped an inside-the-park home run.

Next up for NCCC is its Region III opener against visiting Finger Lakes Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday.
