Thunderwolves win twice at Cougar Classic

Niagara County Community College continued its strong start to the season by taking two games at this past weekend's Genesee CC Cougar Classic. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, are 12-0 on the season. Next up for NCCC is a non-conference contest vs. Garrett College. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. Saturday.

Niagara CCC 81, Durham (Ont.) College 46

Sophomore point guard Alliyah Gillespie had a game-high 17 points and four steals in the win. Freshman guard Neraelyn Trueheart came off the bench to record 13 points and four rebounds, sophomore guard Peyton Butts had 10 points and nine rebounds and classmate Taliyah Hopkins notched nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Niagara CCC 80, CC of Rhode Island 46

Hopkins shot 7-for-10 from the field on her way to 17 points and six rebounds in the win. Trueheart again had 13 points and four boards, while freshman forward Nina Starkweather finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Jenna Faulkner was 3-for-3 from 3-point land to net nine points and four assists. The Thunderwolves had 24 assists in the victory - the 100th in head coach Nate Beutel's career.
