NCCC tripped up by Garrett

For the second consecutive season, Garrett College knocked off Niagara County Community College in non-conference action. A furious fourth-quarter rally helped the visiting Lakers earn an 88-83 double-overtime win on Saturday. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 17 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, fell to 12-1 - an overall record they now share with Garrett.

Sophomore wing Taliyah Hopkins finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead NCCC. Classmate Alliyah Gillespie added 15 points and six rebounds, while sophomore Peyton Butts chipped in with nine points, six boards and five assists.

Garrett's Chaunte McDowell had 24 points, including a clutch 3-pointer in the waning seconds of regulation. Teammate Taylor Ferguson canned a 3-pointer to send the game to a second OT.

NCCC is off now until Jan. 7 when it travels to Columbia-Greene CC.
