Thunderwolves go 3-0 on the week

Niagara County Community College won a trio of games in convincing fashion this past week, improving to 19-2 overall. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, are also 3-1 in WNYAC play.

Niagara CCC 95, Jamestown CC 35

Freshman center Diamond Fedrick led six players in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Alliyah Gillespie had 14 points, four rebounds and four steals, classmate Taliyah Hopkins finished with 13 points and eight boards and second-year guard Peyton Butts had 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Nina Starkweather added 12 points and eight rebounds and freshman guard Neraelyn Trueheart scored 10 points. The visiting T-Wolves took control of the game with a 25-3 advantage in the third quarter. NCCC also held a 58-24 edge in rebounding.

Niagara CCC 85, Mercyhurst North East 37

NCCC forced 30 turnovers on its way to the big win. Hopkins led the way with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Gillespie had 18 points and four boards, while Fedrick netted a career-high 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Freshman center Alexis Brown chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Niagara CCC 84, Roberts Wesleyan JV 53

Hopkins led the charge with 18 points and six rebounds. Fedrick picked up a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Gillespie scored 12 and the backcourt duo of Courtney Kaczor and Deja Johnson split 22 points.

Next up for NCCC is a matchup with rival Erie CC. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at ECC City.
