NCCC loses second-half lead vs. MCC

Niagara County Community College squandered a 19-point third-quarter lead in an 80-75 setback against visiting Monroe CC on Wednesday night. NCCC, ranked No. 20 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, drops to 14-2 overall and 0-1 in Western New York Athletic Conference play. MCC, which is ranked No. 12, is now 12-3 and 1-0.

Sophomore point guard Alliyah Gillespie had a career-high 26 points in the loss. Classmates Taliyah Hopkins and Peyton Butts added 15 and 13 points respectively. Freshman forward Nina Starkweather came off the bench to record nine points and nine rebounds.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is a road contest at Genesee CC. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
