NCCC wraps up regular season with win

Niagara County Community College finished up its regular season by knocking off host Mercyhurst North East, 80-35, in Western New York Athletic Conference action Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improve to 25-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

Freshman center Alexis Brown paced NCCC with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Peyton Butts netted 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Classmate Alliyah Gillespie added nine points and four boards. The T-Wolves overcame a slow start and out-scored the Saints 37-9 in the middle two quarters.

Next up for NCCC is the annual Region III Div. II Tournament, which will be hosted by top-seeded Monroe CC. The second-seeded Thunderwolves will take on No. 3 Erie CC at 3 p.m. March 4.
