NCCC tops Kats in regular-season finale

Niagara County Community College had five players in double figures and shot better than 47 percent on its way to an 88-72 Region III victory over rival Erie Community College on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves finished the regular season with a record of 18-10 overall and 10-5 in regional games. 

Sophomore guard Neraelyn Trueheart led NCCC with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman sharp-shooter Shilah Parker connected on five 3-pointers, finishing with 20 points and six boards. Sophomore Diamond Fedrick had another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore point guard Deja Johnson had a career-high 14 points off the bench. First-year forward Kendra Lawton chipped in 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is the annual Region III Division II Tournament. The second-seeded T-Wolves will take on No. 3 Jamestown CC at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10 in the semifinals at Monroe Community College.
