Niagara County Community College fell to 0-2 on the young season following an 86-63 Region III home loss to perennial power Monroe Community College on Wednesday night. The No. 3-ranked Tribunes moved to 4-1 on the year.
NCCC came out fast, holding the lead for most of the first quarter. A second-quarter barrage of Sierra Green 3-pointers, though, was too much to overcome for the host Thunderwolves. The returning NJCAA Div. II All-American canned six of her game-high seven treys in the first half as MCC built up a 46-27 lead at the half. Green finished with 25 points.
The T-Wolves attempted to claw back in the 2nd half, but it was Lanay Rodney - another returning All-American for MCC - that slammed the door with a 31-point performance.
Freshman guard Dakaylah Winfield led NCCC with 15 points, while classmate Shilah Parker added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Next up for NCCC is a home date with SUNY Broome. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Friday.
