Niagara County Community College needed a late fourth-quarter surge to knock off Region III rival Mercyhurst North East, 80-75, on Saturday afternoon. The Thunderwolves improved to 17-10 overall and 9-5 in regional play. The Saints dropped to 6-17, 2-12.
Freshman Kendra Lawton netted 17 of her 21 points after halftime to lead the comeback. She also had 11 rebounds. Sophomore Diamond Fedrick, meanwhile, finished with a game-high 30 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Neraelyn Trueheart, who battled foul trouble throughout, had 14 points while connecting on four 3-pointers.
NCCC returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to cross-county rival Erie Community College.
