NCCC wins conference opener

Niagara County Community College opened conference play with a resounding 105-60 victory over visiting Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 14 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, are now 20-1 overall and 1-0 in regional competition. 

Sophomore guard Paige Emborsky led a balanced NCCC attack with 23 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Cierra Harrison had 19 points, 11 assists, seven boards and six steals, second-year post Aubrey Halloran finished with 16 points and nine boards and sophomore point guard Nickelle O'Neil chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. All 12 active players scored for the T-Wolves, who won the rebounding battle 60-26. 

Next up for NCCC is a home date with rival Jamestown Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
