Thunderwolves sweep three-game road trip

Niagara County Community College took a trip down the I-90 this past weekend and returned to Sanborn with a perfect 3-0 record. The No. 15 Thunderwolves open the home portion of their schedule at 1 p.m. Saturday vs. SUNY Broome in the first game of the annual NCCC Tip-Off Classic.

Sophomore point guard Nickelle O'Neil had 18 points, five assists and five steals in her NCCC debut. Classmate Paige Emborsky canned four 3-pointers on her way to 18 points, while freshman guard Alaina Forbes contributed 16 points and six assists off the bench in her first collegiate game. Sophomore wing Cierra Harrison added 11 points for the T-Wolves, who shot 52 percent from the field and racked up 28 assists and 26 steals.

Forbes again had the hot hand, netting 25 points to go with five boards and five steals. Sophomore forwards Molly Mahony (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Caitlynn Snook (12 points, 6 rebounds) also had strong efforts in the win. Freshman forward Sierra Newton chipped in with a career-best 10 points and five boards for NCCC, which shot a blistering 77 percent and assisted on 28 of their field goals.

Emborsky scored a team-high 20 points to go with four assists and four steals as the Thunderwolves steadily pulled away from the host Rams. Freshman guard Taylor Lockwood had a breakout game as she finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Sophomore post Aubrey Halloran added 12 points and O'Neil chipped in with 11 points, six assists and five rebounds.
