NCCC wins third straight regional title

Niagara County Community College knocked off visiting Jamestown Community College for the fourth time this season, 99-72, in the Region III Division II championship game this past Saturday afternoon. It is the third consecutive regional title for the Thunderwolves, who improved to 8-4 on the season. JCC finishes its season at 3-8.

NCCC sophomore Alaina Forbes led a balanced attack, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Classmate Taylor Lockwood canned five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points and seven boards. Freshman Gabrielle McDuffie had 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals and fellow first-year player Kiya Marquez netted 13 points off the bench. NCCC closed the first half on a key 15-3 run and then exploded for 33 points in the third quarter.

Kate Tedquist led the Jayhawks with 20 points.

The Thunderwolves' season will continue with the NJCAA Div. II East A/B District Championship on Saturday at Raritan Valley Community College. NCCC will take on Lackawanna Community College - runner-up in Region XIX. Tip-off time is TBA.
