Eckles, Keller take 2nd at Ohio Open

Niagara County Community College freshmen Freddy Eckles and Troy Keller each finished as runner-up at this past weekend's Ohio Intercollegiate Open, which included several NCAA Div. I and II wrestlers.

Eckles was second at 133 pounds after dropping a tight 6-5 decision to Terrell Grant of Cleveland State. Eckles gave up a reversal late in the bout. On his way to the title match, Eckles knocked off Ashland University's Stephen Gordy and Brandon Gould of the University at Buffalo.

Keller was second at 165 pounds after dropping his first match of the season - 16-12 against Isaiah White of Notre Dame College. White was one of the top recruits in the country last year. In the semifinals, Keller picked up a major decision over Koltyn Eason of Edinboro. He also earned a 10-6 win vs. Fritz Schierl of Ohio State and a pin of Ohio University's Joseph Terry.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is Sunday's annual New York State Championships at Cornell University.
