Keller named MOW at NYS Championships

Niagara County Community College sophomore Troy Keller took first place at 165 pounds on his way to Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at this past weekend's New York State Collegiate Championships hosted by SUNY Cortland.

Keller becomes just the third wrestler in NCCC history (Justin James, 2008 & Freddy Eckles, 2016) to win the state event, which first started inviting junior colleges in 1997 and features grapplers from NCAA Division I, II and III schools. He is the first-ever NCCC wrestler to earn MOW honors at the tournament.

Keller, a returning NJCAA All-American and University at Buffalo commit, went 5-0 in his weight class. He defeated Ithaca College's Nick Velez, 5-4, in the title match. In the semifinals, Keller beat Cornell University's Foster Karmon by technical fall (17-2). He also had a quarterfinal technical-fall (16-0) victory over Alec Corrao of Ithaca.
