NCCC drops tight match to Saints

An unexpected pinfall, forfeit and narrow defeat in the heavier weight classes made all the difference as Niagara County Community College dropped a tight 24-19 decision to host Mercyhurst North East in Region III action on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves are now 1-2 in dual meets on the year.

Sophomores C.J. Walz (133) and Freddy Eckles (141) along with freshman Katrell Jackson (149) each won by major decision to give the T-Wolves an early lead. Fellow first-year grappler Anthony Bell earned a win by technical fall at 165 as NCCC built up a 19-6 advantage.

The final four matches, though, all went in favor of the Saints, who hosted a Military Appreciation event.

Next up for NCCC is Saturday's Northeast Journeyman Duals at Hudson Valley Community College.
