Quinn, Eckles earn All-American honors

Freshman Greg Quinn and sophomore Freddy Eckles became the 49th and 50th NJCAA All-American in Niagara County Community College wrestling history following their performances at this past weekend's NJCAA Wrestling Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa. 

Quinn advanced to the quarterfinals at 125 pounds before finishing in fourth place. Quinn went 5-2 at the tournament with three tight decisions, a pin and forfeit to his credit. He finished his first season in a royal, gold and black singlet with a 29-9 record.

Eckles, meanwhile, fought his way through the wrestlebacks to place seventh after being upset in round two at 141 pounds. He finished the event with a 4-2 mark, including two major decisions. Eckles finished the year with a 37-5 record. He has over 50 wins in his two-year NCCC career. 

Sophomore Anthony Bell won a pair of matches at 157 pounds before being eliminated. Those picking up one win for NCCC were: sophomore C.J. Walz (133), sophomore Katrell Jackson (149), sophomore Michael Phelps (165), sophomore Sergio Crespo (184) and freshman Anthony Robinson (285). 

In team scoring, the Thunderwolves finished in a tie for 16th place with Western New York Athletic Conference rival Jamestown Community College.
