Niagara County Community College's win streak was snapped at one as it dropped an 11-0 Region III decision to host Genesee Community College on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars are now 5-0 and ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll. NCCC, meanwhile, drops to 1-4.
Miko Yamashita had a hat trick to lead GCC, which had eight different goal scorers. The Cougars held a 40-3 edge in shots with 26 of them reaching the net. NCCC freshman goalkeeper Halie Hambruch finished with 15 saves, while being peppered with shots throughout.
Next up for the Thunderwolves is a road contest at rival Erie CC, which is currently ranked No. 1 in the country. The match is set for 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at ECC's South campus.
