Thunderwolves drop one in final seconds

Niagara County Community College suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 Region III defeat at the hands of visiting Tompkins-Cortland Community College under hot and dry conditions on Wednesday afternoon. NCCC drops to 0-4 on the year.

The Thunderwolves, on the strength of goals from sophomore Alexis Fyock and freshman Katie Hummel, held a 1-0 lead at the half and a 2-1 edge late in the second half. But their lack of depth caught up with them over the final 10 minutes of the contest as the Panthers scored twice, including the game winner with less than 30 seconds remaining. Freshman Elisabeth Baker also had an assist in the loss.

"Even though we didn't get the reult we wanted, I thought today showed that when we are at full strength we can be very competitive within the region," first-year head coach Dave Hesch said.

The T-Wolves return to the pitch at 1 p.m. Sunday when they visit Cayuga Community College at Holland Stadium in Auburn.
