NCCC swept by Jayhawks in season opener

Niagara County Community College opened the 2017 Western New York Athletic Conference season with a tough three-set loss to visiting Jamestown Community College. The scores were 25-10, 25-14, 25-15 in favor of the Jayhawks.

NCCC raced out to an 8-6 advantage in the first set before JCC stormed back, netting 19 of the next 21 points. Returning NJCAA Div. III All-American SallyAnne Rudny led the Jayhawks with eight kills, six digs, four aces and three blocks.

Sophomore Lauren Wills finished with 10 assists, freshman Madison Phillips had seven kills and freshman Braillen Hare added six digs for the Thunderwolves, who travel to Erie CC for Region III pod play beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Opponents include: Herkimer College, Mohawk Valley CC and Fulton-Montgomery CC.
