NCCC drops tight match to Cougars

Niagara County Community College dropped three close sets to visiting Genesee Community College in Western New York Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night. The scores were 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 in favor of the Cougars. NCCC fell to 4-16 on the year, but played one of its best matches of the season, according to head coach Lindsay Matikosh.

NCCC freshman McKenna Collignon had 13 assists and four service aces, while sophomore Maddy Finn contributed 13 digs and freshman Jessi Wood finished with five kills and five digs.

The match also served as the centerpiece to a Breast Cancer Awareness event, which raised over $100 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The gym was decorated throughout, while players, coaches, officials, staff and fans all wore pink in support of the cause. 

"We had a great turnout for a good cause," Matikosh said. "I hope to make this an annual event going forward."

The Thunderwolves wrap up the 2018 season on Saturday at the annual WNYAC Tournament hosted by Jamestown Community College.
