Thunderwolves beat Saints in pod play

Niagara County Community College finished 1-2 as the host school of this past weekend's Region III pod action. The Thunderwolves beat North Country Community College, but were swept by SUNY Adirondack and lost in five close sets to Hudson Valley Community College. NCCC is now 2-6 on the year with a Western New York Athletic Conference home matchup against Mercyhurst Northeast slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Niagara CCC 25-25-25, North Country CC 13-23-13

Freshman Jessi Wood had a career-high nine kills in the clean sweep. Classmate McKenna Collignon added 26 assists and five aces, while sophomore Maddy Finn finished with 15 digs and three service aces. Offensively, sophomore Caitlyn Vishion ripped seven kills and freshman Jessica Cruz-Jackson chipped in with five kills and four aces.

SUNY Adirondack 25-25-25, Niagara CCC 16-11-11

Finn had 18 digs and Cruz-Jackson finished with six kills and 11 digs in the straight-set setback. Vishion added six kills and Collignon notched 14 assists.

Hudson Valley CC 23-25-25-22-15. Niagara CCC 25-22-20-25-7

Collignon recorded 26 assists and six digs in the heartbreaking five-set defeat. Finn had 22 digs, Cruz-Jackson finished with nine kills, six aces and six digs, Wood added 13 digs and five kills and Vishion put down six kills. Also getting on to the score sheet were sophomores Sha'Vonne Rzepa (seven kills) and Christine Domon (six kills, two blocks).
