NCCC falls to Jayhawks in straight sets

Niagara County Community College played its best set of the season, but couldn't overcome a slow start in a straight-set Region III loss to visiting Jamestown Community College on Tuesday night.

The scores were 25-8, 25-23 and 25-16 in favor of the Jayhawks (4-3). The Thunderwolves, meanwhile, fell to 0-3.

Freshman Gianna Smalley led the NCCC offense with seven kills to go along with five digs. The T-Wolves battled throughout the second set with a season-high 10 team kills in the frame.

Also for N-Trip, freshman Jocelyn Swierski had nine digs and classmate Kaitlin Hoadley added 15 assists.

Claire Pumford had a match-high 13 kills for JCC.

NCCC continues its month-long homestand at 11 a.m. Sunday when Corning Community College visits for a regional matchup.
