SANBORN, N.Y. – Game one belonged to Niagara from the start, as the Thunderwolves struck early and built an 11-0 lead over four innings. The Lakers managed just 4 hits, with singles from Markus Brehm (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton), Jeffrey Broadnax (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), and Joey Sanna (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton). Ian Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) started on the mound, going three innings before Tyler Arno (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) pitched the fourth.
Game two told a different story offensively, as the Lakers totaled 15 hits and 12 runs. Brehm and Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y./Eastridge) both homered, with Brehm driving in 3 on a deep shot in the fifth and Russo launching a 3-run homer in the fourth. Brennen Russo finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, while Joey Sanna and Justin Angora (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) added a combined 5 RBIs. Despite several late pushes, the Lakers couldn't overcome an 8-run fourth inning by Niagara that proved to be the difference.
Finger Lakes returns to action tomorrow for a rematch with the Thunderwolves on their home turf.
