Lakers Finish Home Finale with a Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team played host to the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves for their final home match of the regular season.

Lakers freshman Marius Dalidet (Oullins, France/ Saint-Thomas D'Aquin-Veritas) netted the first goal of the match for the Lakers early in the 10' off a pinpoint pass from Vojtech Bartosek (Prague, Czech Republic/ Anglicko-Ceske Gymnazium Amazon). Just 10 minutes later, the Lakers would add to their lead with an unassisted goal from Joao Antonio Rocha (Sergipe, Brazil/ Colegio Master). Teammate Vojtech Bartosek added to the lopsided first half with a goal of his own, before Andre Budrich (Saxony, Germany/ Oberland Gymnasium Siefhennersdorf) capped off the first half with a goal assisted by Sergio Baron (Bogota, Colombia/ Liceo Matovelle).

The second half of the match was a very familiar sight for the Lakers as they continued to put pressure on the Thunderwolves. Freshman Daniel Medina (Mexico City, Mexico/ Tec Monterrey Santa Fe) increased the advantage to 5-0 off an assist from teammate Sergio Baron. Freshman Juan Mercado Cano (Toluca, Mexico/ Unitec) added to his tally with an unassisted goal to make the game 6-0 Lakers.

A costly Thunderwolves penalty in the box helped the Lakers extend their lead after Austin Wolfe (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) converted on a penalty shot to increase their lead to 7-0.

With the shutout victory, the Lakers improved to 6-6 and continued to climb the NJCAA Region III rankings as the team has their eyes set on a playoff berth. The Lakers are back in action Saturday, October 14th for a road match with the Cayuga Community College Spartans with a match start time slated for 3 PM.
