Jayhawks End The Season at the WNYAC Tournament

ROCHESTER  - Wrapping up the 2021 season, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team went 1-3 at the Western New York Athletic Conference hosted by Monroe Community College.

 

The Jayhawks (10-12) got their lone victory of the afternoon against Niagara County Community College, posting set scores of 25-17 and 25-5. In their next match, JCC fell to Erie Community College with set scores of 25-15, 22-25, and 6-15. Moving on to their third match of the day, JCC fell in three sets to Genesee Community College, 20-25, 25-17, 9-15. To finish the day, JCC was downed in two sets against Monroe Community College, 19-25 and 16-25.

 

To lead the offense, middle hitter Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) had a total of 32 kills including a 10-kill match against GCC. Outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) had 23 kills on the day including a game-high 14 kills ECC. The offense was ran through setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) once again, tallying 77 assists on the afternoon including a high of 26 against ECC.

 

Claire Pumford led the team in digs during the tournament, collecting 28 including a 12 digs against NCCC. Johnson was also a strong contributor on the defensive end, collecting 24 digs including 11 against MCC.

 

The Jayhawks will look to build off this season going into next year as they will return all but one player.
